BACKGROUND
Currently TSEP funds may be used by a city or town to create quite zones along railroad routes used by coal hauling trains. Primarily the trains hauling coal are on the southern route, but actually there is more overall train traffic on the northern route. Train noise is train noise and the type of cargo being hauled has nothing to do with the noise of train whistles at train crossings.
ACTION
The League will support legislation to expand use of TSEP funds for establishing quiet zones to any railroad crossing regardless of type of freight.
